Questions People Ask Before They Start

Is a will only for rich people?

No. A will says who receives what you leave, who manages your estate, and who looks after your children. Without one, your family has to go through a longer process. An ILAPI survey (2023) found people spent an average of GHS 7,550 on next-of-kin processes after a death, and some up to GHS 15,000.

Does writing a will bring bad luck?

A will does not decide when your life ends. It decides what happens to what you leave behind. Many families see looking after the living as a duty, and a will is one way to do that.

My family already knows what I own. Do I still need one?

Knowing is not the same as having it on paper. Banks, land records and courts act on documents, and relatives often remember things differently. A will settles it before there is a disagreement.

Is my will legally valid?

Under Ghanaian law a will must be signed in ink with two witnesses. MeWill prepares your document and can arrange the Signing Room and witnesses. A digital signature alone is not valid for a will.

How much does it cost, and when do I pay?

Is my information safe?

Your documents are encrypted at rest with AES-256, and we follow the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).

I live abroad. Can I use MeWill?

Yes, you can sign up with a phone number from many countries, including the UK, US and Canada. Signing rules apply to Ghanaian property, so message us on WhatsApp before you sign abroad and we will explain the steps for where you are.
